Jane, a friend from our ward who is a wonderfully talented photographer (http://www.janegrayphotography.com.au/) asked to borrow our baby for a photo shoot a few weeks ago. Here are the results:

We are so in love with this little boy (well, he's not so little really…) He is such a delicious baby and we are so blessed to have him in our family. Granted, we don't get as much sleep as we did before he came along but we wouldn't change him for the world. We love you Rafa!

P.S. I think he looks like the michelin man, all those rolls! hehehe

Queremos tanto a este bebito (bueno, no tan chiquito…) El es un bebe tan delicioso y somos bendecidos de tenerlo en nuestra familia. Aunque no dormimos tanto como antes de su nacimiento, no lo cambiariamos por el mundo entero. Te amamos Rafa!

P.S. Abi dice que Rafa se parece al muneco de las llantas michelin...

Hi all. Abigail is very good at giving you all the details about our wonderful experience with welcoming Rafa to our family so I'll let her do that. I just wanted to give you the basic info and show you some pictures and video of our new baby.

Rafael was born at 7:50am on 18-Feb-2010
Joondalup Hospital in Perth, Western Australia (about 15 min from home)
He was 8lbs 8oz.

Abigail was amazing and brave. I'm not saying birth is easy but it was much easier than it was with Arieli both, birth and recovery as well. I was blessed to have a week off work so I could help in the house. Some families in the Ward were kind enough to cook some meals for us so that was great. I'll go back to work tomorrow so Abi will be alone with the children for the first time... good luck to her!

Abigail estuvo increible y fue muy valiente. No digo que dar a luz es facil pero fue mucho mas facil que con Arieli en dar a luz y tambien en recuperarse. Tuve la bendicion de tomar una semana de vacaciones para asi poder ayudar en la casa. Algunas familias en el Barrio nos trajeron cena asi que eso fue una gran ayuda. Regreso a trabajar manana asi que Abigail va a estar solita con los dos ninos en la casa.... Buena suerte!

Family Beach Walk

We decided to go to the beach for a little walk after dinner the other night (my ulterior motive was to try and kick-start labour, so far no success...) but we saw a beautiful sunset and had fun taking some photos.

As I said before my main motivation for doing the family walk was to try and walk out this baby - but it is so nice to have an early dinner and go for a stroll together. We've had to be careful with Arieli though because she loves the beach so much and she heads straight for the water! A few times now we've had to strip her off and take her home with no clothes on because she decided to go for a bit of an unplanned swim...

Our Baby is due on the 12th of this month (next Friday - yay!) We are so excited!!! We'll keep you all 'posted'...

We're Back... plus one

We've been a bit slack on our blog but we're finally getting around to it again.
Our most exciting news right now is that we are expecting a new addition to our family in February next year. We just found out that we are having a little boy and are so excited. We can't wait to meet him!
Below are some photos of Arieli taken recently by a friend from our stake who is a photographer (http://www.janegrayphotography.com.au/).
Arieli is thriving and is truly a delightful little girl. She runs all over the place and says a few words now but her favourites are "hi" and "no!" She will be 18 months next month and going to nursery. Not a baby anymore!

My sister Katie and her husband and their two girls are moving over here to Australia at the beginning of December and we can't wait. It will be so nice to have them close and Arieli will have so much fun playing with her cousins. We are all doing well, waiting for summer to come back so we can have some warmer weather.

We're coming up to Arieli's first birthday this month and I can't believe how quickly time has gone. She is such a joy, and we are loving watching her grow and enjoying getting to know this amazing little person who has joined our family.

I was walking through the mall with Arieli a little while ago and some women came up and said "do you want to have your baby's photo taken?" and I thought "well why not?" We only ended up buying two photos because we already had some family portraits done (Roberto now says he wants to get into photography because they must make so much money!) but here they are...

She's grown two new teeth since these were taken (her front top teeth with a cute gap between them, just like her Nana and Aunty - my Mum and sister) and her hair is a little bit longer, but she's pretty much the same. Although even more beautiful (hard to imagine, I know!!!)
Arieli is learning new tricks each day and loves to clap her hands, dance to music, and points and waves to people and cuddles her collection of teddy bears. She's a very snuggly baby and can now say three words: Mama, Nana, and Agua (water). That's our clever girl!

2008 – the year that was

We’ve been a bit remiss in updating the blog so here’s a brief rundown on what happened for us last year.

In June we graduated!

I finished classes in Spring but wanted to walk with my man so after Roberto powered through his last term we had the ceremony together. Best feeling in the world not having any homework assignments in the evenings… But seriously though, we both feel so blessed to have been able to attend BYU-Hawaii and sure do miss that place, even (gasp!) our tiny little shoebox of a studio apartment at TVA.

Then we went to Ecuador for a few months to visit family and apply for Roberto’s work visa for Australia.

This is Arieli Iraida with her great-grandmother Iraida (her name-sake). We named Arieli after her great-grandmother because she is such a wonderful woman, hard-working, faithful, kind-hearted, loving, and generally adored by everybody who knows her.

And then we headed to Perth, Australia to stay with my parents while we get on our feet.

I think we can safely say this was the looongest trip of our lives! Took us three days to get there. Arieli was a little angel the whole way. We were lucky enough to have a spare seat beside us for most of the trip so we lay her down between us and at least one member of the Guzman family managed to get some sleep…

We’re living in Perth right now. It’s a nice place. Quiet, clean, and hot! One of the benefits of living on the West coast of Australia (although it’s far from anywhere else) is the beautiful sunsets we get off the coast:

Arieli had her first taste of food and is now enjoying all sorts but her favourites are yoghurt, fruit, and veggies. Although she does like Mummy’s beef stew too!

She is also a big Marmite fan – this is her after lunching on a marmite sandwich (if you don’t know what marmite is then you’ve obviously never been to New Zealand)

Arieli’s first Halloween – cutest bunny rabbit I’ve ever seen. (I was also quite proud of my home-made costume, who knew I had such hidden talents?!)

Our ward had a really fun activity called “trunk or treat” where each family decorated the boot (or trunk) of their car with Halloween stuff and candy and we all parked in the church parks and the kids went from car to car getting goodies. It was so fun to see them having such a good time and it was also a nice safe option for trick-or-treating.

In Early December Arieli and I went to New Zealand for a week to visit with family, everybody was so excited to finally meet her and she loved spending time with everyone! This is Arieli with Aunty Maureen and Uncle Richard.

Arieli had heaps of fun playing with her two cousins Eva-Lee and Anahera.

Me and Arieli with my sister Katie and her girls. It was so nice spending time with family. This was also the week that Arieli cut her first tooth. She crawled over to me and bit me on the hand and I felt something sharp! She has two teeth now.

Arieli’s first swim in the pool – she loved it! She is a real water-baby.

At the park on Australia day. This is actually in January of 09) We’re not Australians but we thought it was appropriate to celebrate because we are grateful to be in this country.

And this one I just like, it shows my baby’s character – she has a great sense of humour and is heaps of fun!

So I'm finally learning how to blog. I got a little inspired looking at blogs of our friends and how nice and up-to-date they are and am feeling motivated right now to get on top of this whole blogging thang and let everybody know what we've been up to! Our blog is currently undergoing a bit of a makeover so watch this space!

We arrived in September and have settled in over the past few months. Roberto is now working for the Department of Environment and Conservation and Arieli is zooming all over the place, getting cuter by the minute. Staying with Mum and Dad but hunting for a rental right now. Exciting times!
